A Life in Music

I can't remember a time when music wasn't part of my life.

I play clarinet, and I dabble in recorder and piano—enough to have fun and enough to know there's always more to learn. I sing, too, and I've found that the older I get, the more I love the simple act of making music with other people.

These days, most of my music happens at church and in my community here in Greenwood, Mississippi. It's not a career. It's something better than that—it's a calling, a hobby, and a way of being present to the people around me.

Where I Serve

Children's Choir Director — Episcopal Church of the Nativity

I lead the Children's Choir at my parish, and it's one of the great joys of my week. Teaching kids to sing—and watching them discover that they can—is a privilege. We work on simple anthems, learn the rhythms of the church year, and (mostly) have fun.

Chancel Choir — Episcopal Church of the Nativity

I sing regularly with the adult Chancel Choir. Sunday mornings, feast days, and the seasons of Advent and Lent—this is the music that grounds my week and keeps me connected to the liturgy I love.

Greenwood Chorale

I sing with the Greenwood Chorale, a community chorus here in the Delta. This December, we're preparing Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat—two works that are as joyful as they are demanding. If you're local, I'd love to see you there. The performance is set for December 15, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church (Greenwood).

What I Play

Clarinet — My primary instrument. I've played in pit orchestras for local theatre productions, in chamber settings, and in worship. I love the clarinet's warmth and its ability to move between grief and joy in the same phrase.

Voice — Choral singing is my home base. Alto in the pews, soprano when needed. I love blending, and I love the moment when a choir locks in and you can't hear individual voices anymore.

Recorder & Piano — I play both at a "for fun" level. The recorder is a wonderful teaching instrument, and the piano is where I work out ideas and accompany myself when I'm learning new music.

I currently direct the Children's Choir at my parish, and I've found that I love helping people—especially beginners and kids—discover what they can do with their voices and their instruments.

The honest answer: they're the same skill in different clothes.

Both require listening more than talking. Both require showing up prepared. Both require knowing when to lead and when to support. In a pit orchestra, my job is to make the actors shine. In design, my job is to make your mission shine. Different stages, same principle.
